Hawaii Notice of Rent Increase
Give written notice before raising rent on a Hawaii tenancy. Follow the lease and Hawaii notice rules. Local rent-control rules can cap the amount even when the notice period is met.
- A landlord generally gives 45 days’ written notice to end a month-to-month tenancy; a tenant generally gives 28 days (Haw. Rev. Stat. § 521-71).
- This notice is not an eviction and not a new lease.
- City rent-control or just-cause rules may still limit the increase.
