California Notice of Rent Increase
California Civil Code section 827 sets 30- or 90-day written notice for a rent increase, depending on whether the hike is more than 10% of the lowest rent in the prior 12 months. AB 1482 and local rent control can still cap the amount.
- 30 days if the increase is 10% or less; 90 days if it is more than 10% (Civ. Code § 827).
- This notice is not an eviction and not a new lease.
- Covered properties still have to fit AB 1482’s statewide rent cap unless exempt.
