New York Notice of Rent Increase
Give written notice before raising rent on a New York tenancy. Follow the lease and New York notice rules. Local rent-control rules can cap the amount even when the notice period is met.
- Notice to end or raise rent on a periodic tenancy is generally 30, 60, or 90 days depending on how long the tenant has lived there (N.Y. Real Prop. Law § 226-c).
- This notice is not an eviction and not a new lease.
- City rent-control or just-cause rules may still limit the increase.
